Children's Vision

When should a child be brought in to have his or her eyes examined?  The answer may be earlier than you think!  We offer exams for patients as young as 6 months of age!

Did you know that 80% of learning comes from vision????

It is imperative that your child has normal, healthy vision to ensure that he can learn to his full potential.  The day-to-day tasks of reading from a board, writing or reading at near, and working on computers can cause eyestrain and may lead a child to avoid tasks.  For these reasons, children with vision problems are often diagnosed with behavior problems.  Most parents are unsure when it is appropriate to schedule an appointment for their children, and the new Missouri Children's Vision Law should help with that decision.

Missouri Children's Vision Law

Under new Missouri law, all children entering kindertgarten or first grade in Missouri public schools are required to have a formal eye exam, starting July 31, 2008.  This eye examination must be performed by January 1st of the entering school year.  This eye exam is more comprehensive than a vision screening, and is designed to catch students that may pass a vision screening but may have underlying issues.  The earlier a problem is detected, the easier it is to treat, especially with eye conditions such as lazy eye and eye turns.  If you have a child in the school system and need to have their eyes checked, please call our office and we would be happy to schedule an examination.

We have a special offer for those children who do not have insurance and still need the required examination.  To find out more information, or if you have any questions about the new law, please call us at 816-523-8421.
